Develop Reading Readiness

An easy way to develop reading readiness is to sprinkle magazines around your home. Leave magazines on a coffee table or out in plain sight where they are easy to reach and encourage your child to look through them.

Get a magazine subscription for your child such as:

Fill in the Blank

Write simple sentences on index cards. Leave a word out and ask your child to put a word in the blank. For example, “I like to play with [fill in the blank].”  Anything that makes sense is the right answer.

Personalized Stories!

This activity will help your child recognize his/her name in print.  Write a story about your child, with your child.  Use his/her name often.  When you read it together ask your child to clap or make a sound when he/she hears or sees their name in the story.
