Wonderful! Well said. In my family, EVERY child has chores and fully participates in the running of our household. They don't always love it, but it has taught them an appropriate amount of responsibility and reasoning. Thanks for the great suggestions!

When my son was small I would store extra toys in the top of his closet, then every few months I would swap them out. It was like having brand news toys for him to play with all over again.

If you join a MOMS playgroup or have friends with preschoolers around the same age, parents could get together once a month, let the kids play and swap out toys.

I must admit I let my son watch television when he was young but we were very selective. We allowed him to watch Kipper, Little Bear and Blue's Clues. These shows are pretty tame with a slower tempo, geared more for young children.

We also only allowed him to watch them from VHS or DVD's, so we didn't expose him to all the commercials, which can lead to a chronic case of "I want, I want, I want." :)

I love the idea of learning with Pumpkins. It is important to make learning fun for kids. I also recommend cooking some delicious recipes with your children. It can be way fun and tasty. Also, I am so glad some one wrote the importance of crunching leaves and jumping in leave piles with your children. I think that is something that everyone needs to experience. You learn to enjoy the beauty of the world and to enjoy the small things.

You missed one! Find or make a small box with a hole in the top and fill it with a dozen scarfs. Let your toddler unload the "tissue" box over and over again.

I totally agree with the idea that kids do not necessarily need to go to preschool. My daughter is 4 and I have not sent her to preschool. I am a homeschooling mother and have decided to teach her the basics and a little more at home.

She gets the much needed one on one time with me while learning important concepts. She is involved in skating lessons and Sunday School for her social aspect.

It's working wonderfully for us. I love your post.

I have such fond memories of playing with my son when he was just an small boy of 3 or 4. Our local appliance center always had a friendly smile and a huge box for us.

We would bring home a new appliance box every couple of weeks. We would cut out windows and doors, then we would use all sorts of things to decorate it. Markers were of course a favorite tool but we also would glue on fabric for curtains, stickers, crayons, paint and just about anything else we could imagine.

We spent hours of fun filled hours playing with our boxes. On occasion my son was even know to fall asleep in one. :) Thanks for reviving the memories

I can't think of anything worse than the government trying to get kids ready for the workforce. What's next? Civics classes in an attempt to ingrain some pride in our country and encourage political participation by the masses? The gall of the Preschoonazis is amazing
