Help your child create their own life sized gingerbread house out of a big box! Put the box on an old shower curtain or newspaper. Turn the top flaps into a roof with masking or packing tape. An adult will need to cut excess cardboard with a utility knife. Cut 1 opening for the door, and cut openings for 2 windows (these can be rectangular and/or square). Do not cut the windows off; the windows should be able to open and close. Paint the box brown or leave the box as is. Decorate the house with colorful circles and shapes that have been made to look like candy pieces. Make candy canes too!
Holiday House Variation: Paint the box any color desired. Then, cover each window area with yellow construction paper to create a warm glow. Make 2 paper candles and glue one to each piece of construction paper if desired, then use black construction paper to outline each window. Decorate the house with a “strand of lights” made out of paper and yarn.
Have fun!
