The first day of Summer is June 21st, also called the Summer Solstice. It is the longest day of the year in the northern hemisphere of Earth. Show your children a world globe and point out the northern hemisphere (above the equator) and the southern hemisphere (below the equator). Explain that the sun (the closest star to Earth) will be at its brightest and most powerful in the northern hemisphere providing lots of light and warmth. Your young child may not fully understand the words, but exposing them to new vocabulary and ideas sets the groundwork for further learning as they grow.
